Johannes Wedel is an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, Faculty within the Transplant Research Program, Division of Nephrology, and Affiliate Faculty at the Computational Health Informatics Program, Boston Children's Hospital. He received his MD in 2012 from Heidelberg University, Germany. During his training, he was a member of an International Research Training Group that fosters interactions between the Medical Faculty of Mannheim, Heidelberg University, Germany and the University of Groningen, Netherlands where he received his PhD in Transplant Immunology. In 2014, Dr. Wedel moved to the USA and established his laboratory within the Transplant Research Program in 2021. Dr. Wedel’s research is focused on how intracellular signaling networks direct T cell activation, promote immunoregulation, and resolve inflammation. His broader interest is to identify mechanisms that can prevent transplant rejection and induce operational tolerance following organ transplantation.
Research Fellows
Research Fellow
Â
Nicolas received his PhD in immunology from Nantes University, France in 2023 for his work on the modulation of the immune system by regulatory B cells in kidney transplanted spontaneous operational tolerant patients and on the development of regulatory B cell derived cell therapies. His research in the Wedel lab focuses on the characterization of novel immunoregulatory mechanisms following organ transplantation using Systems Immunology approaches.
Research Assistants
Lab Manager, Research Technologist
Â
Bayan is the Lab Manager of the Wedel Lab. She received her BA and MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Boston University in 2021. She is interested in the regulation of T cell responses post organ transplantation and is specialized to perform multiomic experiments in innovative in vitro and in vivo models.
Research Assistant

Vicki received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Philosophy at Tufts University in 2023. Â She joined the Briscoe and Wedel laboratories as research assistant to perform multiomic analysis and hopes to attend medical school in the future to pursue a career in nephrology.
